Worldometers, What?

Worldometers is managed by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a wide audience around the world. Sources are carefully selected to include only data published by the most reputable organizations and statistical offices in the world.

The counters that display the real-time numbers are based on Worldometers’ algorithm that processes the latest and most accurate statistical data available together with its estimated progression to compute the current millisecond number to be displayed on each counter based on the specific time set on each visitor’s computer clock. Find a bathroom in your way...

To put your mind at ease, it's good to know where the bathrooms are — even if your diarrhea is under control. So plan ahead. Enter the ZIP code or city and state where you'll be, and find out where the bathrooms are.

This is the level search engines have stooped down to. Now we are using the internet to locate the free bathroom avilability when we are out there shopping.

LCD/DVD combo pretty cool, isn't it??

Brionvega's 19-inch Alpha LCD / DVD combo display tops out at 1,280 x 1,024 and obviously boasts a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it can be equipped with a digital DVB-T tuner. Beyond that, you'll find a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits of brightness, five-millisecond response time, 160-degree viewing angles and a small array of ports.

There's also a pair of three-watt stereo speakers in there, and the integrated DVD player even handles VCD, SVCD and MP3 discs. If you've found yourself overran with disposable income, you can grab yours in orange / silver / black for €1,950 ($3,016) and up.

Ubuntu scores over Windows here...

That's why I like Ubuntu. You can have it on any number of systems you like. That too with a single cd which they will ship to you for free and as many as you like.

Grand Theft Auto IV, The biggest release ever...

Analysts are predicting that GTA IV will sell more than Halo 3 in its first week, not only making it the biggest opening for a game, but the biggest opening week, revenue-wise, of any entertainment entity. One of the great appeals of the game is the freedom. Jump in a car - any car, toss out the driver and go explore the city, anywhere, anytime, at your leisure.

This time the story is in present day, April 2008, and you're cast as Niko Bellic, a Russian mafia-type who's landed in Liberty City (New York), hoping to live a straight and narrow life. Well, that ain't going to happen. Your cousin and host of new acquaintances quickly get you in their clutches, and you're off into the world of organized crime.
The game's writing sparkles, the story is superb, the graphics are the best in their class, and new hero Niko is just the kind of guy you'd like to go for a beer with. At the time of writing, not a single major site had awarded GTA IV anything less than their maximum possible score.

Can we expect life on some of them, may be one of them...

Windows XP SP3 ready for download Officially...

The much awaited Windows XP SP3 is available to download from the Microsoft's official site. Downloads will surely be rather slow after the release and it does make sense to download the service pack 3 for Windows XP early. Cautious users will be delighted to know that the official download links of service pack 3 have been revealed and that it is as of now possible to download the Service Pack 3 directly from Microsoft servers.

To download just click the below link...

Macs all the way...

This is one big MAC class. Just observe the laptops in their laps, you can see that almost all of them are using a mac. Except for this guy who is using the old-school pen and paper. Ofcourse there are some other laptops from Dell, Acer here and there but you rarely can see so many macs at a single place.

One of my friend was saying that he has never seen so many macs in his entire life and quoted that this might be something like a meeting of the macs to discuss their future.

DVD ripping made easy...

If you take a look at the online tutorials on DVD ripping you find some that require five or six different tools to rip a single DVD. Thankfully though it is possible to rip DVDs to the computer with just one or two free applications these days.

Bitripper [via Freeware Genius] scans the DVD drive of the computer and immediately detects a video DVD that is inserted into the drive. A click on Start Ripping would initialize the ripping process and that’s it. No technical questions about bitrates, formats or resolutions, just plain and simple DVD ripping. The software offers settings naturally, the video can be saved as mpg or avi on the hard drive of the computer.

I haven't used it yet but hope to use it soon and share the results with you.

Piclens, use it, You will admire it...

Piclens is one cool addon for Firefox, which I was thinking to share with you but I couldn't figure out how to explain its worth to you guys. When I was first introduced to this addon by a friend of mine, I asked him what is it for? His reply was just use it and see. Then I installed it and voila I have a nice picture viewing software in my Firefox.

PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen 3D experience for viewing images across the web. They have a new interactive "3D Wall" and built-in search function which lets you effortlessly drag, click, zoom, and zip your way around a wall of pictures for an extraordinary viewing experience.

Go Go Go Goa!!!

Shriya is the dream girl for many South Indians, But very few know what her secret desires are. Shriya recently revealed that she has a hot desire to go to Goa and do you know why? She says that she considers that to be the best place to freak out with friends, as Goa is a place where no one questions you if you go nude there!

According to the actress, every woman needs to have the freedom of expressing herself in her own way and Goa is the best place for that. Hope her fans are not reading this...I am going on a vacation shortly and you know where I am going, yes to GOA.

Here I come GOA....

Social Networks' popularity continent-wise...

This is one cool pic enlightening the average social networking guy about the popularity of these sites in different regions of the world. Only Hi5 is the social network which has crept into all the regions, even if the wholesome usaage is less compared to other big gaints like Myspace, Orkut, Facebook, etc...

One of the costliest bikes ever...

Believe it or not, Electric Motion Systems' E+ actually isn't the priciest electric bicycle we've ever seen, but at $3,495, it's a far cry from being a bargain. Aside from boasting a relatively traditional frame, the unit gets powered by an EMS 1000-watt hub-mounted, brushless permanent magnet motor, which should provide 20 to 40 miles of fun on a single charge.

Proving its intelligence, the E+ also supports regenerative braking, which enables the battery to get charged each time the rider slams the stoppers. You'll also find a handlebar-mounted LCD display which shows speed, distance traversed, battery level and whether or not cruise control is enabled. Suddenly, $3,495 seems quite reasonable, right?

Windows 7 from the wild....

Here are some desktop pics of Yet to be released Windows 7 OS. This is termed as the successor of the Windows biggest failure OS Vista. Windows 7 has itself integrated with something like a health centre which is a dubbed version of update centre and there are some cool new icons too. I would like to get my hands onto the latest Windows 7 as I am not a fan of Vista and I am still using XP as my base OS and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as my dual boot.

Hope it will not be a failure like Vista!!!

worst captcha ever

I was trying to download a file from the evil Rapidshare (who make you wait about 2 painful minutes before giving you the file) and just after the wait time is over, I get a Captcha looking like this:

Does it really need to be this hard? Are you telling me that it has come down to us, hiding domestic animals in our captcha characters in order to hold off bots? Plus, there are only 3 “letters” in that image but its asking for four.

This was what I found from one of the rapidshare users out in the wild world of blogging. His agony is understandable but think of Rapidshare guys, you just keep milking them out with some or other leeching software. So, they are coming up with their own preparations.

MacBook AIIR for the Royals...

I don't know if Steve Jobs likes this or not, but many people worldwide seem to like this. The macbook air completely drenched in gold with some sapphires embedded on the top. The apple logo in different colored sapphires is an eye-catchy one. I guess Steve should consider this as a brand logo so that he can reach the ladies who are the fans of gold and jewels.

Google tops the Brand value list 3 times in a row

It seems Google has solidified its dethroning of Microsoft in at least one regard: the global power of its brand. For the third year in a row, the search giant whose very name has been transformed into a verb, grabbed the top spot in a list of the top 100 most powerful global brands. Its brand value grew 30 percent since last year's report to surpass $86 billion.

Market research firm Millward Brown Optimor produced the rankings based on interviews with more than a million consumers worldwide, as well as on financial data. The results show that "strong brands continue to outperform weak ones in terms of market share and share price during recessions," Millward Brown Optimor CEO Joanna Seddon said in a statement.

Of the top 100 most powerful brands, 28 of them were technology related, including Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, Oracle, Intel, Dell, and BlackBerry.

Now Rapidshare has Happy Hours...

I have been noticing and utilizing the MegaUpload happy hours which extend from 9 pm to 3 am everyday for US residents. But this is a strange move from Rapidshare to have happy hours. Here goes the reason from them to have Happy Hours.

"17. April 2008 - Captcha stories, happy hours

As every free user should have noticed, we are experimenting once again with the CAPTCHA system. The reason is that RapidShare is popular enough for people to create tools to download from RapidShare as a free user as if they were a premium user. This has a negative impact for our paying premium users, since they expect a fast download. On the other hand we are also experimenting with happy hours again. When our servers have enough spare bandwidth, we will make it easier for free users to download from RapidShare, knowing that this also makes it possible again to automatically download files with those tools. Right now the RapidShare Happy Hours will disable the download tickets and the captchas completely"

'Bond' car plunges into Italian lake..

The car being used in the latest James Bond film plunged into a lake in northern Italy while being driven to the set.

Producers say the driver of the Aston Martin was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. They say James Bond's iconic car was being delivered to the filming unit in heavy rain on Saturday morning when it went off the road and plunged into Lake Garda.

Italian state TV has shown footage of the smashed, black car being hoisted out of the water. "Quantum of Solace" is the newest film in the 007 series. It stars Daniel Craig and is due for release later this year.

Oldest human alive turns 115!!!

On Friday, Edna Parker laughed and smiled as relatives and guests released 115 balloons into sunny skies outside her nursing home. Dressed in pearls, a blue and white polka dot dress and new white shoes, she clutched a red rose during the festivities.

Parker, who was born April 20, 1893, is the oldest known human. She will turn 115 on Sunday, April 20, 2008. How could she achieve this miracle, Oh miracle is a big word but still I prefer to use it. Was it her daily eating habits, work outs or sheer luck that helped her live so long.

Happy Birthday to you old lady actually young lady...

Search Megaupload and Rapidshare the easy way...

Wondering how can you search for a particular file from all the available files on Rapidshare or Megaupload. Here's a solution. Yesterday while I was searching for something else I stumbled upon this site MegaDownload.net.

Here you just need to type in the required file name and Voila!! you get some millions of results from these two sites. This I found to be pretty good instead of searching all those blogs and pirate sites for links just with one click you can find the needful. Though I am not a big fan of Rapidshare, I like Megaupload a lot because of their download speed which is around a staggering 700 kbps.

Amitab's blog....

This has become a trend today, that all the famous public figures are trying their hand at blogging. The latest to join the bandwagon is none other than the Big B Mr. Amitab Bachchan. He has his blog at bigadda.com. He has barely started his blog and look at it not less than 400 comments are flowing in.

With his fanbase knowing no boundaries of color, creed, religion, nation, it is always expected this kind of viewership but most of his fans seem to be mature with their comments unlike others who just want to meet him or take a pic with him. I have been following his blog lately and I feel that he want to portray himself in his own words rather than the double faced media. Good going Big B....

Trying my hand at Ubuntu...

I have installed the Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon Linux edition, very recently. I don't know why but I downloaded it and intalled as a dual bootup on my Laptop along side my favorite XP. It's pretty cool though. The striking features in Ubuntu as of now(strictly for me) are Compiz Fusion(desktop visual effects manager and memory eater) and the workspaces. I even believe that it has got some good wireless signal catching power.

Ofcourse, I am just a starter and Ubuntu is pretty new to me but with the kind of help and assistance the Ubuntu Forums is providing, I would definitely be in control pretty quick. But one thing I am missing in Ubuntu is the "refresh" command. Other than that it is a pretty smooth ride.

Orkut Apps - the Facebook way

The Orkut team began rolling out applications (apps for short) on orkut to everyone in India and will roll out apps to all orkuteers, in local languages, over the next few weeks. Apps are integrated directly into your orkut experience. When you log into your profile, you will be able to add up to 25 apps to your orkut profile. Your friends will see all the apps you've added, be able to interact with them, and can add any apps they like to their own profiles. Apps can relate to anything, from games and music to travel and books.

This is going to be somewhat like the Facebook stuff but in the desi-style. Hope it clicks with the millions of users out there in India. Watch out for the "add apps" link in your profile over the coming weeks.

Shutdown Day, What???

Among all the days like Fathers' day, Earth day, Lovers' day, etc... adds one more day the Shutdown Day. The idea behind Shutdown Day is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate! It is obvious that without computers we would find our life extremely difficult, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Shutdown Day is a non-profit organization registered in the province of Quebec, Canada. Shutdown Day was founded with the sole purpose of spreading awareness about the pitfalls and dangers that lie in the excessive use of television, computers, and computing equipment like game boxes, cell phones, music players, online social websites, etc. that impinge on social space and interaction amongst our communities.

Shutdown Day is a Global Internet Experiment whose purpose is to get people to think about how their lives have changed with the increasing use of the home computer, and whether or not any good things are being lost because of this. The idea of Shutdown Day project is simple - just shutdown your computer for one whole day of the year and involve yourself in some other activities: outdoors, nature, sports, fun stuff with friends and family - whatever, just to remind yourself that there still exists a world outside your monitor screen.

Twitter saved U.C. Berkeley student...

When Egyptian police scooped up UC Berkeley graduate journalism student James Karl Buck, who was photographing a noisy demonstration, and dumped him in a jail cell last week, they didn't count on Twitter.
Buck, 29, a former Oakland Tribune multimedia intern, used the ubiquitous short messaging service to tap out a single word on his cellular phone: ARRESTED. The message went out to the cell phones and computers of a wide circle of friends in the United States and to the mostly leftist, anti-government bloggers in Egypt who are the subject of his graduate journalism project.

The next day, he walked out a free man with an Egyptian attorney hired by UC Berkeley at his side and the U.S. Embassy on the phone. Twitter, the micro-blogging service for cell phone users, allows messages up to 140 characters long. Twitter users can allow anyone they wish to join their network and receive all their messages. Buck has a large network, so Twitter gave him an instant link to the outside world.

Convert PowerPoint Presentations to Video Files

Here is a way to convert a PowerPoint slide-show into video so you can distribute presentations more easily.

You can upload these PowerPoint video files to sites like YouTube or MySpace and some of your creation could go viral. Transfer the PowerPoint slides to an iPod or your mobile phone and enjoy the presentations while on the move. If your slideshow is like a photo album with lot of images, convert the PowerPoint to video and burn onto a DVD - you can now watch the presentations on a large TV screen.

The possibilities are endless. PowerPoint files converted to video using this technique also preserve all the voice narrations. And as expected, the total cost is $0.

Jesus Crying!!!

An unexplained image in a hospital prayer garden window moved some people to tears and drew groups of people to a hallway before vanishing, according to witnesses. A crowd inside the Florida Hospital Medical Complex in Orlando snapped photos of the image apparently showing the profile of Jesus Christ crying.

A viewer said the image caused "a commotion" in the hallway near the prayer garden. The hospital is calling it an unexplained image. Witnesses said after a few hours, the image vanished.
I don't know whether it is really Jesus or not but these things, the so called sightings are occuring in a number of places and most of them are termed to be hallucinations or man made rumours.

Will your flight be on-time?

Are you worried that your flight might be delayed or in the worst case scenario cancelled. Are you in a doubt whether you can make to that very important meeting of yours or not? Don´t blame the airlines for that, there´s a solution for everything.

Delaycast is one such website which provides you with the flight delays, cancellations info. So they are providing you with some very good options to choose the flights that are not delayed.

Liquid cooled Gaming PC

This setup is the one that I saw in engadget and I thought to share with you guys. This one is a liquid cooled gaming pc. Yes you heard it right. ItÅ› liquid cooled pc where the fluid is pumped in and out regularly so that there is no distraction to your gaming requirements.

The special thing to be mentioned here is that this user has integrated the liquid cooling technology to his refrigerator which gives extra cooling effect as well as he can get to his beer bottles very easily. I mean its pretty hard to stay away from alcohol while gaming all night.

This I hope didn´t cost him much. But the idea is innovative, may be you guys can try something like this.

IE alias for those addon lovers...

IE Aliases for Internet Explorer 6 & 7 lets you create aliases to open single and multiple web sites, folders, and files easily. It basically lets you specify any text that you type into your address bar to load a web site, directory, or file you specify.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you can make a single alias open multiple items. To setup your aliases, open Internet Explorer, click on "Tools", and then click on "MuvExToE - IE Aliases Setup".
You can now type just "g" for gmail or "y" for yahoo, etc.. Just have some fun out there. At last I could find some useful addons for IE7.

Get more out of your laptop battery...

I found some tips which helped me in increasing the performance of my laptop when it is working on the battery. Most of them might be known to you but they still are pretty good and useful.

  • Set your battery performance to balanced or power saver mode.
  • Avoid watching movies or videos from external source like dvds/cds. They can kill 30% of your battery performance.
  • Reduce your backlight to the minimal level and switch off the wireless connection when not in use.
  • Kill unwanted background services like updates, defragments, indexing, etc..
There are lots other tips but I found these pretty important as they could save you some battery which can be used during emergency.

Have some change...

Do these guys really hate Bush or do they just fake it. Ofcourse I don't have any complaints against him. I don't even know him personally, then there is no reason to hate him.

Too Lazy to wakeup early...

These days it's becoming pretty hard to wakeup early. With the onset of the day light saving or nightlife killing it has become still harder for me to wake up early. There are many people around me who say early risers have added advantage and I believe in that. But I only believe in that and never follow it especially these days.

A friend of mine wakes up early in the morning because he goes out for a job, but what do I do by waking up so early. You know what, just think for a while how much work a person waking up at 6 in the morning can do compared to person waking up at 12 noon. Its 6 full hours of productive work. For this to happen stop those late night videos and parties. Stop those untimely movie watching.

Now I am gonna try this approach from tomorrow and that tomorrow I expect isn't that far away from me. Take this as an advice or suggestion or whatever it is, but follow it to be productive as one of my friend told me to be...
Ramee says,"Atlast some good stuff from you."

India wins the third test...

India won the third against South Africa and levelled the series. This is a very short but thrilling end to the most important test for both the teams. The Indians' have kept their cool and clinched a well deserved victory.

The pitch played a big role in this concluded match. It was really tricky to play in such conditions for both the teams. Here I would say that Ganguly's innings stands tall apart from all other batsmen. He really played a great deal of an innings which helped India to stay in tune with the runs and eventually helped them to gain the most important first innings lead.

Wow!!! Power Star did it again....

A telugu film beating all its hollywood counterparts and reaching into the top ten grossers of the week. This is good to imagine, dream but Power star Pawan Kalyan has turned the tables around and made the unimaginable come true.

The latest movie from Geeta Arts, Jalsa has placed itself in the 9th position of top ten boxoffice collections for the previous week on boxofficemojo.com. These are the collections of movies overseas and Jalsa is standing tall between hollywood flicks like 10000 B.C., Juno, Jumper, etc... This is really a good sign for the tollywood which is slowly between steadily making its foray into the international arena.

Hail PowerStar. Though this success can be mainly attributed to the presence of Pawan in this movie, we cannot taken away the credit from its producer Allu Aravind who employeed very good business tactics to draw such crowds. Keep rocking guysss.....

Guess Who???

This guy is like a messiah for all the Indian theatre owners and Indian movie distributors in USA and overseas. If this guy gives a rating of 3 and above on a scale of 5 for a movie, it is regarded as watchable. If the movie rating falls below 3, keep my word the film is gonna fall flat on its face.

Nobody knows how this guy looks or where he stays but his reviews speak a thousand words and make or break million dollar businesses. He is none other than the reviewer for Idlebrain.com, Mr. Jeevi.
